Know your Skin Type. Know the Needs of your Skin.

You know that you need to take care of your skin. But do you know what is it that your skin needs? Well, the first step towards knowing the needs of your skin is knowing your skin type. It depends on various factors and to your surprise your skin type can vary as you grow. So, listen to your skin on a regular basis to keep it healthy and glowing.

Skin is classified as normal, dry, oily and combination. Follow these simple steps to know your skin type.

  • Remove your make up and wash your face.
  • Wait for 2 hours and do not apply any product.
  • Now, check carefully how your skin feels like.

Normal Skin: If your skin feels smooth and you see no flakiness or oiliness, then you might have a normal skin.

Traits of normal skin

  • Balanced levels of dryness and oiliness.
  • Skin appears radiant and fresh.
  • The pores are not visible.

How to care?

Regular application of cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen will help to maintain the appeal.

Oily Skin – If your skin looks glossy and is greasy to touch, then you might have an oily skin. Skin becomes oily due to high sebum production which forms an oily layer on the face especially around neck and forehead. Puberty, stress, weather, sugar levels alter the sebum production.

Traits of oily skin

  • Skin is shiny and thick complexioned.
  • The pores seem enlarged.
  • Prone to blackheads, blemishes and pimples.

How to care?

Wash the face with gentle cleanser and use non-comedogenic products. This will prevent clogging of pores and your skin will feel healthy.

Dry Skin – If you see flakes and your skin feels a little too firm, then you might have a dry skin. Opposite to oily skin, dry skin has low natural oil and it tends to peel, crack and itch.

Traits of dry skin

  • Skin looks dull, rough and patchy.
  • Low elasticity and smoothness.
  • Visible fine lines.

How to care?

Avoid excess hot water showers, bonfires and other activities that can rob your skin of its moisture. Use rich moisturizers and gentle cleaners.

Combination Skin – As the name suggests, combination skin is oily at the T-zone and dry or normal everywhere else.

Traits of combination skin

The skin looks glossy.
Skin may be rough on hands and back.

How to care?

Combination skin needs combination care. Less oily and oily regions of skin need to be treated in respective ways.
