The Atlas Of Beauty is a project about our planet’s diversity shown through portraits of women. It was started by Mihaela Noroc, a 30 year old photographer from Bucharest, Romania.
Mihalea Noroc discovered photography at a tender age of 17. While travelling during vacations as a backpacker, in different parts of the world, she was awed by the diversity of our planet. So at the age of 27, she decided to quit her ordinary life in Bucharest and decided to put all her efforts and savings into travel and photography.
As a part of this project, she photographs women surrounded un their natural environment. Till now, she has captured women from 45 countries.
Today, The Atlas of Beauty is one of the most popular photo projects in the world. It has strong communities on Facebook and Instagram while its Tumblr blog was the third most viral in 2015.
It has been featured on CNN and Mihaela Noroc also appeared on Oprah Winfrey’s Super Soul Sunday.
The Guardian, Huffington Post, Business Insider, Forbes, BBC, Spiegel, Corriere della Sera are just a few other media outlets that featured the project.
Through her work, Mihaela wants to capture that feeling of warmth and serenity which comes from the eyes of a woman and can balance sometimes the negativity we see in the media.
Many people from all around the world face discrimination just because they have a certain color, religion, ethnicity or because they are women. The aim of this project is to show that true beauty is diversity and it can teach us to be more tolerant.
Mihaela sees herself as very normal woman. She calls herself lucky to have realised her dream and to get the appreciation and attention by mass media. But, she hopes to be a voice of millions of women who work hard for their dreams but maybe their activities don’t seem so spectacular from the outside. She wishes to capture their inner and outer beauty to show the world how special they are.
Mihaela’s goal is to continue for many years and capture beauty in all countries of the globe, if possible, making this Atlas an inspiration for all women that try to be themselves, natural and authentic
